Suburban Survivalist Outfitter
Gear and Supplies for Prolonged Disasters
Every millennia or so something really, really, really bad happens. If we're lucky, in won't happen in our lifetime, or our children's, or their children's lifetimes. If we're very unlucky, it could happen very soon. What are the risks? Anything which could interfere with production and distribution of food on a global scale would be a big problem. A communicable disease which spreads like a cold, but kills 4 years later, would be a big problem. A global war fully employing modern weapons would be a big problem.
If you have come to this site, you probably don't have to have the issues explained--smart squirrels store acorns for the winter.
Products we sell (and equipment we rent):
- 6 gallon grain buckets. These were packed with Nitrogen in 2005 by Walton Feed Group. Whole corn is 40 pounds. Hard White Wheat and Hard Red are 45 pounds. Mormons buy these and actually eat the stuff. I'll stick with groceries, but if the stores are ever empty, these will keep you from starving. Whole grains stored this way will still be nutritious hundreds of years from now. They also make good animal feed. We rent a grinder if you want to see if you can actually make palatable bread. Buckets are (call for market rate) each and hand grinder is $19 for a one week rental. For local (Derwood, MD) pickup only.
- 20 gallon water barrels - Safe water can come in handy even during short-term emergencies. Why not fill a barrel or two? $59 each. Local pickup only. Hand pump is $69, but not needed.
- Iodine tablets - These reduce cancer risk after some radiological disasters. The government doesn't have enough stockpiled, and you need to take them immediately, so a bottle in the house is not a too-radical idea. We stock RAD BLOCK KI by USDPI. 200 tablet bottle is $25.
- Survival Straw Portable Water Purification Device from USA Marketing. 100% alloy, no carbon. Destroys more than 99.99% of most bacteria, and many other chemical contaminants. Handy if you have to do extended travel in areas where good water isn't available. $25
- Dosimeter and chargers. These will tell you when radiation levels you have been exposed to have become dangerous. $149 for two dosimeters, instructions and recharger. These are US Government cold-war era issue. Recently tested by our expert.
- Geiger Counter (Analog Smart Portable, Model ASP-1). It's not just people with tin foil hats who worry that there just MIGHT be something cooking at home or the office. This detector will tell you what's hot and what's not. $39 for a one week rental, including a bit of weakly radioactive Uranium ore, so you can verify it's working.
- Bullet-proof vest. Slightly used, with trauma plates. Can be worn under a shirt or coat. Adjustable. Frankly, these will probably only protect you from morons. They are very nice for playing paintball (they reduce bruising and the risk of puncture injuries). $225 sale only
- Book: "Guide To Sheltering From Terrorist Attack"
