Borland Paradox 4.0 for DOS
Paradox for DOS 4.0 - Original list price $795. Upgrade was $199.95. If you are a legal owner of PdoxDOS 4.00 or 4.01, you may be entitled to a copy of the 4.02 maintenance release, just as you were entitled to 4.01 if you bought the original 4.00. Unfortunately, Borland no longer handles Paradox for DOS. However, we have been told that you can legally get your copy of 4.02 from any other owner of 4.02. If you have "regular" Paradox, you can get "regular" 4.02. If you have RunTime Paradox, you can get RunTime 4.02. Ownership of one does not entitle you to the other, or to both. Documentation was unchanged between 4.0, 4.0x and 4.5, except that 4.5 includes "4.5 Upgrade Guide". Bear in mind that 4.02 was the first release that did not use serial numbers, but you are still required to adhere to all licensing and user count rules. If you are a legal owner of PdoxDOS 4.5, and need to maintain "3.5 style" Compatible Mode applications in 4.02, you can legally "downgrade" to 4.02 in the same manner as above, again within the standard licensing rules. (According to Steve Green, Diamond Software Group, Inc., http://www.diamondsg.com).

Borland Paradox Engine and Database Framework 3.0 WIN/DOS

Key Features
The Paradox Engine API offers functions that let you:
Create read and write Paradox tables, records, and fields in Windows, DOS, and network environments
Use C++ or Pascal with objects to develop object-oriented applications using the Database Framework
Convert tables from Paradox 3.0 or 3.5 to Paradox 4.0 format.
Apply explicit or implicit table or record locks for safe concurrent access by interactive Paradox users, PAL and
ObjectPAL applications, or other engine applications.
Support both Paradox 3.5 locking and the new super-fast Paradox 4.0 and Paradox for Windows locking protocols.

Share data concurrently with Borland and other vendors' applications, including Quattro Pro, Sidekick 2.0, and Objectvision. Support Paradox security features such as password protection, and table encryption and decryption. Support the new composite secondary indexes available under Paradox 4.0. Perform case-insenstive searches on Paradox tables. Support date encoding and decoding. Harness an efficient ISAM engine for indexed and sequential searches, including Paradox 4.0 and Paradox for Windows composite indexes. Perform tight, efficient error handling. In non-Windows apps you can link your own error handler or use the one provided with the Paradox Engine. Create, read, and write Paradox BLOB fields (including text, binary, and OLE types) using ten new functions. Import data into Paradox tables through serial communication devices, for example, when downloading mainframe data. Create standalone applications, applications used as extensions of interactive Paradaox, or PAL/ObjectPAL applications. For example, the PAL RUN command can be used to invoke an Engine application. Maintain compatibility with existing code developed with earlier Engine and Paradox versions. Have a royalty-free runtime license.
